Sailor Talk

Although the weather was sunny, several faithful members and visitors participated in last night’s Sailor Talk ~ including 8 Skippers and 7 crew.  Also give a big SEAS welcome to  two New Skippers Members who signed up ….  Gus Marx of S/V Maeve a Pacific Seacraft Sloop and Sigrid Dahlberg & Hal Geiger of S/V Okojo Maru a Albin Vega …. Welcome!!!!

Wade Rogers, the SEAS Racing Committee Chairman spoke on sailing rules when racing, along with skookum mini-videos demonstrating what can and shouldn’t happen at the beginning of a race. 

On April 13,  fourteen skippers were present along with other members and those interested in learning by crewing and helping with maintenance this summer.

After the introduction of old and new members, and SEAS guests, the discussions began.  Our old friend,  Brad Tibbs, S/V Freebird, interjected a wealth of information from his years of experience as a machinist.

Working on the Bottom

On a cold February day in 2011, approximately 20 sailors met in the new Northwind Architecture office to talk with Commodore Jim Mahan about cruising to White Sulphur Hot Springs on Chichagof Island. 

After Jim's talk, Skipper/Father/Architect Sean Boily wanted to ask about reefing systems, and what type people found to be the best, especially in shorthanded situations.

Get together with other sailors to share stories and tips about sailing in Southeast Alaska at new Sailor Talk events hosted by SEAS.

The new monthly talks, organized by the group’s education committee, are open to both members and nonmembers—“anyone interested in the magical process of moving a boat through the water with only the wind” said the club’s Commodore, Jim Mahan. While there will be some organized sharing with occasional presentations, the gatherings are intended to be informal and allow all present to join in the discussion.
