Winter’s a good time for talking about summer sailing! Come to SEAS Sailor Talks

Get together with other sailors to share stories and tips about sailing in Southeast Alaska at new Sailor Talk events hosted by SEAS.

The new monthly talks, organized by the group’s education committee, are open to both members and nonmembers—“anyone interested in the magical process of moving a boat through the water with only the wind” said the club’s Commodore, Jim Mahan. While there will be some organized sharing with occasional presentations, the gatherings are intended to be informal and allow all present to join in the discussion.

Discuss two topics at the first Sailor Talk, Wednesday evening, February 23--cruising from Juneau to White Sulfur Hot Springs, and sail reefing options. Mahan, skipper of the Loa’a Nalu, will provide a presentation on charts needed for cruising from Juneau to White Sulfur Hot Springs, an idyllic; secluded anchorage on the outside coast of Chichagof Island, and share stories from his many sailing trips there.Sean Boily will lead a discussion of sail reefing options and how to install a single line reefing system.

Mahan says the club expects to offer these talks on a Wednesday evening monthly until summer. Topics will range from how to make your sail boat safe for kids to cruising the outer coast from Juneau to Kodiak.
