2024 Maritime Festival Buoy Race

Jumbo in the backgroundThe first race of the year is always a time for figuring things out for the season, and this year was no exception! Surprise brought the wrong genoa on accident, and High Noon only had a portion of their usual crew. That said, the weather cooperated and we had a thrilling match race in moderate winds and a bit of sun.

The race start was delayed by a Navy destroyer steaming through the start line for the Maritime Festival.

Once the course was clear, Surprise took an early lead after some pre-start maneuvering, but High Noon caught up on the first upwind leg. Surprise had a clean spinnaker run through and re-took the lead on the downwind legs.

High Noon powered through upwind again for the fourth lead change of the race and claimed line honors.

Surprise wound up correcting over them for the overall win.
