SEAS Year End 2012

Sailors!

With fall or 2012 moving swiftly into winter and a New year, SEAS members and friends met for a year end party at Rockwell on Friday night, October 26. A big Thank you to SEAS Treasurer Mary Sternfeldt for making and then verifying the reservation in triplicate! We had a great showing with barely enough seats to go around, with awards presented - another big thank you to SEAS Vice Commodore Wade Rogers for getting the awards engraved and here in Juneau on time for the party! 2012 season awards as follows:

SEAS Cup:

1st place - S/V Surprise, Skipper Anthony Crupi

2nd place - S/V Haiku, Skipper Brian Lieb

3rd place - Tie S/V Loa’a Nalu, Skipper Jim Mahan and S/V Tango, Skipper Sean Boily

AIR Cup; Lead our of four participants: S/V High Noon, Skipper Mike Rentel (Yes, a growler counts as TWO meals in the race end reckoning - and you and you crew were the only ones to finish a leg!)

 Recognitions:

1st Family Boat: S/V Surprise with Anthony and Lori and kids crew - bold wins!

1st Newby Boat: S/V Shiva with Joe and Kristen and kids crew - brave showing for the AIR. Hung in there on all legs!

1st Committee Boat: M/V skiff with Joel Osborn - may all your mechanical woes be healed and Optiminium be racing in 2013! Thanks for being there on the line for most of our races.

1st Red Lantern: S/V Shoreless with Maria Gladziszewski and Erik Keuffner - Hey guys, missed you at the party - and you would have smokes d us all if you raced more!

And one more recognition: Long time member, board member and excellent crew member Nikki Dawson just signed the papers on a gorgeous little NorSea 27 - currently located in Hawaii!

As a special note, I want to thank all crew, families and friends for participating in the fleet actions this year - we could not, and would not want to , do this without you!

We had some fantastic racing this season, and though we all could have stood for a little more sun, I think we all were grateful to have some wind!

Heading into winter we will be looking at electing a new board and panel of officers, and continuing our “comradery” series (AKA Sailor Talk).

It has been a pleasure and an honor serving as Commodore on the SEAS board in 2012, and I want to make room for other quality leaders to emerge in our group in 2013.

We will be starting up the SEAS Sailor Talk Sessions in January - again the plan is for a once-a-month evening session of story and education as we gear up for the new season. As always, the field is open with regards to subject matter and we will provide more information after the holidays.

Happy sailing into the new year!
