1/3/11 SEAS Board meeting

Began at 6:03pm at KTOO.
Present were Jimmy Mahan, Brian Lieb, Mary Sternfeld, Jason Fagal, Jim
Green, and Nikki Dawson

There are not enough votes yet for the bylaw changes to pass.  Only one
more vote is needed.  Jim Green will vote as soon as he gets home.

Committee Appointments:
Mike Reynolds has agreed to serve on the Education Committee.
Zach has agreed to serve on the Communication Committee.
Brian Lieb will be the web guy on Communication Committee.
Jim Green will be on the Communication Committee.
Jason Fagal will be on the Education Committee.
Jimmy Mahan will contact Patricia Mason, Patti Harper about being on the
Communications Committee and Sean Boily, Gerald Gotschall, and Ati Nasiah
about being on the Education Committee.

Brian will change the content of the website to reflect the current board
members.

Future meeting notes will be typed directly into a computer at the meeting
and posted at that time.

A vote was taken and Jim Green was appointed as the At Large Board Member
on the Communication Committee and Jason Fagal was appointed as the At
Large Board Member on the Education Committee.

A discussion was held to bring Jim and Jason up to date on the purpose
behind the two new committees.  Nikki has the sticky notes from the
previous meetings and will get them to Jason.

Wade was elected chair of the race committee.  Jim Green will also serve.
Mike Rental has agreed to still do ratings.

Perhaps the Education Committee can organize Mike Rental to teach how to
rate.  The Education Committee should also coordinate with Juneau Youth
Sailing.  Liz Agnew and Lori Crupi are on the JYS board and would be good
contacts.

Mary will pay for memberships and work with Brian and Jimmy regarding
finances.  Club finances are in good shape.  We will need to spend money on
burgees.  We are out of them!

Board meetings will be held the 1st Monday of every month at KTOO at 6PM.

The spring picnic will be Saturday, April 30 @Sandy Beach.  Other required
member meetings are the awards banquet in October and the end of the year
party in December.  Is the July picnic in Auke Bay required?  We should see
what the race committee comes up with for a schedule.  We should all read
bylaws and review our jobs as board members.

There was a discussion on the necessity of membership cards and
reciprocity.  What does it take?  Should the secretary send an email
membership card to each member when they pay their yearly dues?  How can we
encourage skippers to ask crew to become members?  Nikki and Mary will
review the membership form and see if it needs updating.  The Communication
Committee could make the benefits of membership known to crew.  Help us
support sailing by becoming a member.

Jimmy will call Wade, Jim, Mike, and others regarding the committee
assignments.  Jimmy will set up the first meeting of the two new committees
to help them get started.

The web site bar disappears sometimes for some people.  Brian is hosting
the site and can do the technical stuff but he does not want to write all
the copy.  Brian will ask Dave to back him up.

Brad Tibbs has moved.  How should we fill the seat?  Board members missing
from the meeting today are Joel and Brad.  We also made two new board
members, Wade and Mike.  Brian will look at the last election to see who
came in third.  Jimmy will contact Brad to see if he is
interested/available to continue his term.

Race committee needs to get going!  June 18 will probably be the start of
the Admiralty race.  It should be a good fleet this year.  The
Communication Committee should contact the regional clubs.

Next meeting will be February 7, 2011 at 6:00 PM at KTOO.

Jimmy will have a laptop ready.  We need an article to sell the shirts.
We also have 10 hats left from 2009.  Mary, Jimmy, and Brian will meet
Wednesday, January 26, 6:00 PM at KTOO.
