Commodore's Cup to be held this Weekend.
Juneau Youth Sailing Commodore's Cup
Juneau Youth Sailing is looking for help, racers, and is holding another sailing seminar for SEAS members this Saturday (August 8) starting at 10:00 am and lasting until about 4:00 pm.
It is great to get as many SEAS members out there to show our support of Youth Sailing. They need help and encouragement, plus I guarantee there is some really good crew available at these events. So please, if you would like to sign-up send me a note.
Remember not only is this a great chance to support sailing, you can probably participate in the seminar that the JYS instructors will be having for SEAS members, so you should get to sail in the 420's as well.
The official invite for SEAS members to participate is below the fold....
"Ahoy Racers and Spectators!
You are cordially invited to join us Saturday, August 8th for the 12th Annual JYS Commodore’s Cup! There will be races for youth and adults, taking place from 10:00 to 4:00, with a picnic lunch in the middle (we’ll have a grill, hotdogs, chips, and pop -feel free to bring something to share, brie and smoked salmon perhaps…). We also recommend bringing camping chairs and the like to maximize your viewing comfort. And dress for the weather, which will be clear and gorgeous and windy! (Everyone cross your fingers, quick!)
Register your team by sending your names to juneauyouthsailinginc@gmail.com -first come first served (we might run out of boats, so be wary of signing up the morning of).
This is one of the few parties we have that doesn’t involve heavy lifting (did you see that we didn't even put quotation marks around the word party?), so come and enjoy!
Please note: There will be a wedding taking place in the Yacht Club this Saturday, and as our drysuits don’t match the flowers or the bridesmaides’ dresses, we’ll be affording them a wide berth on their special day. Please park near the dock and the JYS container, and plan accordingly, as this means we’re going to have to make due with no indoor plumbing.
Important Details:
The event is separated into several divisions:
The Cup is for teams of youth who have graduated Level II.
The Open is for all ages who have completed Level II, an Adult Class, or a Sailing Clinic.
There will be spinnaker and non-spinnaker divisions.
If there is need, we can run an adult Sailing Clinic at 9:00 that morning for members of SEAS who wish to participate but could not attend the last Clinic (coordinate with Brian).
There will be information available about upcoming South East Alaska Sailing events and opportunities for students and parents to get involved with the big boats.
The non-spinnaker Open will be from 10:00 to Noon.
An outdoor picnic will occur from Noon to 1:00.
The Youth and Open spinnaker divisions will race from 1:00 to 4:00.
We’ll cap it all off with the awards ceremony and thunderous applause.
Sometime in there there will probably be a chance at catching the bouquet."
