Mike 5.0 out of 5 stars Purchased from Enterprise car rental with 13,000 miles on it. My wife and I drove it for several years, then my Mother in Law drove it for a few years, then it went to my wife's sister who drove it until last month, now back to my Mother in Law! 196,000 mile on it now and still strong. The key to making any car last is maintenance.Even when things do go bad this is an extremely easy and inexpensive car to fix, there is a million of them out there so parts are plentiful and cheap.

I recently have ordered rear struts on Amazon to replace those on my Taurus, I will do that this week as I possess the necessary skills and tools to change them. All in all it has been a dependable car, it has actually been passed down through multiple people in my family. My father and mother drove it for more than a year; my brother drove it for a year; and I have had it for the last five years with current odometer reading of 179,000. Besides the time when the torque converter went out it has never left me stranded. Also there are many of these vehicles on the road so needed parts are not difficult to find.Gets about 23 mpg city and highway. Have been driving it about 10 years and have had to replace: starter (2 times - rebuilt Duralast), power steering pump, alternator, pads on front brakes, plugs and wires (twice), one vacuum hose, ac compressor, and washer fluid hose. Otherwise runs almost like a new car; very smooth shifting and good power. I am an old guy and do almost all of my repairs and maintenance. Fairly easy to work on if you don't follow the procedures in the Ford service manual. Having to remove the intake manifold to replace the plugs is stupid and unnecessary. Check out YouTube. Ford made great cars before the 70's, crappy cars after that until the mid 90's and pretty good cars to date. I would recommend this car if it has been kept up.Torque converter will strip pump splines and won't move an inch. No warning. Should have been recalled but Ford was too cheap. Trans will have to be removed. I had to have mine towed over 600 miles, ouch.Just type in 2003 Taurus torque converter on internet and check it out. The new converters have a much heaver spline plate. Ford knew about this.It gets decent gas mileage for the amount of power it produces, I usually get anywhere from 25-32 mpg. And while it isn't a performance car by any means, it does have decent acceleration, adequate enough for most situations.
